Pamiętacie informację sprzed pół roku o tym, jak to w Wenecji pojawiły się słodkie delfinki? To akurat był fake news, ale wystarczyło kilka tygodni bez turystów, żeby woda stała się dużo czystsza, przez co rozmnożyły się rybki, zadomowiły kaczki, a w okolicy można było zobaczyć łabędzie. Podobnie rzadkie zjawisko może nas czekać w ekosystemie startupów (uwaga: nie mylić z ogółem firm, bo te rządzą się innymi prawami). Mianowicie rynek oczyści się z kiepskich projektów – przekombinowanych narzędzi, niepoprawnie optymistycznych wizji, marnych „ficzerów” udających kompleksowe usługi i wszelkich innych kiepsko zarządzanych projektów.

Słowem to, co oczywiste, w naturze biznesowej znowu weźmie górę nad iluzją, którą pompowaliśmy przez lata. Bo dotychczas wszystko to pływało po powierzchni dzięki niesamowitej wyporności rynku Venture Capital. Dotacje, inwestycje, pivoty i inne takie pozwalały wręcz w nieskończoność przedłużać kolejnym startupom ich żywot i dryfować bez celu. Rzekoma innowacyjność była świetną wymówką dla braku rentowności. Teraz skończyło się rumakowanie – przykręcono kurek dętym projektom dalekim od biznesowego sensu. Rynek zaczął, albo za chwilę zacznie, wymagać czegoś więcej niż tylko oszałamiających planów (do których to, bądźmy szczerzy, te same fundusze VC podjudzały, bo tylko takie „dawały zarobić”).

Możliwe, że za powyższe twierdzenia dostanie mi się po głowie, bo doszukiwanie się w obecnym kryzysie pozytywnych aspektów to duża ekstrawagancja. Ale pamiętajcie, że nie mówię tutaj o firmach, które posypały się przez zachwiany cash flow, ale o takich, które nigdy nie oddychały bez dodatkowego tlenu. Co innego prowadzić normalną działalność na niskiej marży i wywinąć orła po dwóch miesiącach z powodu braku przychodów, a co innego pięć lat lecieć na stracie bez szans na pozytywną EBITDA i stracić teraz jakąkolwiek nadzieję na jej uzyskanie, nawet w dalekiej przyszłości.

„Każdy ma jakiś plan dopóki nie dostanie pięścią w mordę” – powiedział kiedyś Mike Tyson i to jest świetny moment, aby sobie o tym przypomnieć. Więc śmiało, podłóż sobie nogę. Masz do tego świetny pretekst, bo możesz wszystko to zrzucić na koronawirusa: „to nie moja wina, to kryzys”. I nikt ci złego słowa nie powie.
