Każdy chce inwestować w najlepsze przedsięwzięcia – problem w tym, że ich liczba jest ograniczona. Najbardziej perspektywiczne spółki mogą wybierać spośród ofert, więc trzeba przekonać je do siebie.

Tutaj właśnie pojawia się mityczne smart money i zaczyna się overpromising. Sprzedaje się piękną wizję wspólnej przyszłości, pokazując konkretne przykłady, a momentami nawet szczegóły. Wszystko wydaje się być spójne, doświadczenie partnerów się zgadza – innymi słowy, brak podstaw ku temu, aby było inaczej. Podejmując ostateczną decyzję, wybiera się te zespoły, które zaoferowały najciekawszą formę współpracy, bo przecież kapitał wszędzie jest podobny. Partnerzy opowiadają więc to, co founderzy chcą usłyszeć, a problemy zaczynają się po podpisaniu umowy.

Wsparcie – jeśli jakieś w ogóle jest – bardzo szybko wygasa. Kontakt jest sporadyczny, nawet zrobienie zmiany umowy u notariusza czy przegłosowanie uchwały przez radę nadzorczą jest niezwykle dużym wyzwaniem. Ważny jest również sam etap życia funduszu, który determinuje pewne wybory.
