]]> W lutym 2017 roku 38,6 proc. urządzeń łączących się z internetem na całym świecie używało systemu operacyjnego Windows a 37,4 proc. systemu mobilnego Android. Jest to, z jednej strony, efekt rosnącej w skali globalnej popularności smartfonów i tabletów a z drugiej spadku sprzedaży komputerów osobistych. Jeszcze pięć lat temu całkowity udział rynkowy systemu Android wynosił 2,2 proc. przy 82 proc. udziału systemu Windows. Windows ma wciąż jednak dominującą pozycję na rynku komputerów – obecnie w skali globalnej używa go 84,1 proc. maszyn.

Oba systemy operacyjne nie są też jednakowo popularne we wszystkich częściach świata. Windows ma wciąż dominującą pozycję w Europie i Stanach Zjednoczonych. W Azji z kolei najbardziej popularny jest Android. W Ameryce Północnej system Windows ma 40,7 proc. udziałów w rynku. Na drugim miejscu jest iOS (24,9 proc.) a dopiero na trzecim Android (20,3 proc.). W Europie z systemu Windows korzysta 51,8 proc. urządzeń a z Androida ponad dwa razy mniej – 23,5 proc. Całkiem odwrotna sytuacja jest w Azji, gdzie Android ma 51,8 proc. udziałów w rynku, przy 29,8 proc. udziałów Windowsa.

  2. Android – 37,42%
  3. iOS – 12,99%
  4. OS X – 5,24%
