]]> ViPR umożliwia zarządzanie infrastrukturą pamięci masowej oraz przechowywanymi w niej danymi. Z platformą zgodne są m.in. systemy pamięci masowej EMC VNX, VPLEX, Isilon i RecoverPoint, a także macierze innych producentów, w tym NetApp. ViPR według producenta jest podstawą do tworzenia internetowych centrów przetwarzania danych.
 
Pierwsze usługi obejmujące dane – Object Data Services – zostaną zaoferowane przy wprowadzeniu rozwiązania na rynek. Usługi te są zgodne z interfejsami API Amazon S3, OpenStack Swift i Atmos. Umożliwią firmom i usługodawcom przechowywanie i przetwarzanie obiektów oraz uzyskiwanie do nich dostępu.

EMC planuje, że ViPR będzie współpracował także z macierzami innych producentów. W ramach platformy zostanie udostępniona usługa HDFS Data Service, która pozwoli klientom korzystać z możliwości analitycznych platformy Hadoop „na miejscu” w całym środowisku pamięci masowej.

Od IV kw. 2013 r. dział usług globalnych EMC (EMC Global Services) zaoferuje warsztaty na temat pamięci masowej zdefiniowanej programowo – Software Defined Storage (SDS) Workshop. Zajęcia (trwające pół dnia) będą odbywały się w siedzibie klienta. Mają pomóc firmom określić ich potrzeby w zakresie zarządzania pamięcią masową, jej kontroli i automatyzacji, co pozwoli lepiej wykorzystać możliwości platformy ViPR.
