]]> VMware przejmuje VeloCloud – firmę specjalizującą się w rozwiązaniach WAN definiowanych programowo (SD-WAN). Zostaną one włączone do platformy wirtualizacyjnej NSX. Według VMware poszerzenie portfolio pozwoli zaoferować klientom automatyzację, ciągłość biznesową i bezpieczeństwo centrum danych po skraj infrastruktury.

Wskutek przejęcia VMware zwiększy presję konkurencyjną na Cisco, które również inwestuje w SD-WAN. Ma to być jeden z najważniejszych obszarów przyszłego rozwoju firmy, coraz bardziej koncentrującej się na oprogramowaniu. W sierpniu br. Cisco kupiło za 610 mln dol. specjalizującą się w SD-WAN spółkę Viptela. Nowe rozwiązania mają na nowo określić infrastrukturę sieci. Według IDC światowy rynek SD-WAN będzie co roku rósł średnio o 70 proc. do 2021 r.

VeloCloud ma obecnie ponad 1 tys. klientów, w tym przedsiębiorstwa, dostawców usług telekomunikacyjnych oraz dostawców usług zarządzanych. Finalizacja transakcji jest spodziewana w I kw. 2018 r. Cena nie została ujawniona.
