]]> Na rekordową sumę składają się: 24,05 dol. za akcję EMC oraz specjalny dodatek za przejęcie przez Della kontroli nad VMware’m, w którym EMC ma 80 proc. udziałów. Łącznie daje to kwotę 33,15 dol. za akcję w gotówce i papierach. Dell ma objąć 70 proc. udziałów w EMC. Według planu transakcja zostanie sfinalizowana do połowy 2016 r. Potrzebne są jeszcze zgody akcjonariuszy i regulatorów rynku. Więcej szczegółów dotyczących akwizycji obie firmy mają podać wkrótce.

Kupując EMC Dell przejmie kontrolę także nad firmami należącymi do tak zwanej konferederacji, w których EMC ma większość udziałów: VMware, Pivotal, VCE, RSA i Virtustream.

Dzięki mega transakcji Dell dąży do stworzenia szerokiego portfolio rozwiązań, obejmującego najważniejsze obszary branży ITC. Dzięki dotychczasowym i nabytym zasobom może być liderem na takich rynkach jak: serwery, pamięci masowe, wirtualizacja (dzięki VMware), infrastruktura konwergentna (VCE), chmury hybrydowe, rozwiązania mobilne, bezpieczeństwo (RSA). Połączona oferta dla firm będzie bardzo urozmaicona, od rozwiązań dla stacji końcowych po wielkie centra danych.

Nową firmą pokieruje osobiście Michael Dell. Do czasu finalizacji transakcji Joe Tucci pozostanie szefem EMC. VMware będzie tak jak dotąd odrębną organizacją.

„Nasza branża zmienia się tak jak nigdy dotąd. Aby pozostać liderami, musimy stworzyć nowe przedsiębiorstwo dostosowane do nowej ery” – deklaruje CEO EMC Joe Tucci. 

Obserwatorzy zauważają, że Dell mimo trwającej transformacji nadal jest głównie firmą komputerową – analitycy szacują, że przychód Della ze sprzedaży PC wynosi 27 mld dol., a z serwerów i pamięci masowych – 9 mld dol. EMC jest natomiast przede wszystkim firmą sprzętową. Na 16 mld dol. rocznego obrotu na oprogramowanie przypada 230 mln dol.
