]]> W porównaniu z poprzednimi tabletami, nowe urządzenia zbudowano na nowych platformach, zmieniły się akcesoria i jest ich więcej, wydłużył czas pracy na baterii, jest więcej konfiguracji. Zachowano natomiast znaną z dotychczasowych Surface’ów magnezową obudowę, wielkości ekranu i wagę.

Surface Pro, czyli model z Windows 8.1, ma 10,6-calowy ekran Full HD – tak jak poprzednik – ale według producenta poprawiono jakość kolorów. Urządzenie działa z nowym procesorem „Haswell” Intel Core i5-4200U (1,6 GHz/2,6 GHz). Czas pracy na baterii wydłużono według Microsoftu z 6 godz. do ponad 8 godz. Tak jak poprzednik model Pro ma złącza USB 3.0, mini-DisplayPort, czytnik kart pamięci, WLAN nach IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, dwie kamerki. Głośniki mają teraz certyfikat Dolby. Surface Pro zostanie zaoferowany w różnych konfiguracjach, z 4 GB lub 8 GB RAM-u oraz napędem SSD o pojemności od 64 GB do 512 GB (pierwszy model miał 4 GB RAM-u i maksymalnie 128 GB pamięci flash).

W Surface RT 2 z Windows 8.1 RT magnezowa obudowa jest minimalnie cieńsza niż u poprzednika. Wyświetlacz zamiast rozdzielczości HD ma teraz Full HD. Urządzenie wyposażono w czterordzeniowy procesor Nvidia Tegra 4 (1,7 GHz) i 2 GB RAM-u. Czas pracy na baterii wynosi 10 godz. (wcześniej 7,5 godz.). Rozdzielczość kamer to 3,5 Mpix z przodu i 5 Mpix z tyłu. W pakiecie oprogramowania jest pełna wersja Office Home & Student 2013 RT wraz z Outlookiem. Użytkownicy obu tabletów mają do dyspozycji 200 GB przestrzeni dyskowej na SkyDrive i 1 rok rozmów przez Skype’a gratis.

Microsoft zgodnie ze swoją strategią powiększa asortyment sprzętu, do tabletów przygotowano więcej akcesoriów. Będą oferowane nowe klawiatury – dotykowa Touch Cover 2 i mechaniczna Type Cover 2 – cieńsze i lżejsze niż poprzednie. Nowością jest Power Cover – mechaniczna klawiatura z własnym akumulatorem, która według producenta wydłuża czas pracy tabletu nawet o 50 proc. Do Surface Pro 2 zaprojektowano stację dokującą, pojawi się także adapter bezprzewodowy do Type Cover, ładowarka samochodowa, nowa mysz Arc Touch.

Ceny na rynek europejski: Surface 2 z 32 GB pamięci – 429 euro, 64 GB – 529 euro, Surface Pro 2 z 4 GB RAM-u i SSD 64 GB –  879 euro, SSD 128 GB – 979 euro, 8 GB RAM-u i SSD 256 GB – 1279 euro, 8 GB RAM-u i SSD 512 GB – 1779 euro. Akcesoria: Touch Cover 2 – 119,99 euro, Type Cover 2 – 129,99 euro, stacja dokująca – 199,99 euro.
