]]> W ramach planu restrukturyzacji AMD zamierza ograniczyć koszty o 200 mln dol. w 2012 r. (m.in. odchudzając kadry), a jednocześnie poprawić wydajność pracy i skrócić czas wprowadzania na rynek nowych produktów. 

Szef firmy, Rory Read, zapowiedział, że firma chce zdobyć pozycję lidera w segmentach związanych z rozwiązaniami energooszczędnymi i chmurą obliczeniową oraz na rynkach wschodzących. Zaoszczędzone pieniądze zostaną przeznaczone na te właśnie cele.

Plan AMD zakłada, że restrukturyzacja doprowadzi do zmniejszenia kosztów (przede wszystkim operacyjnych) o ok. 10 mln dol. w IV kw. 2011 roku i 118 mln dol. w 2012 roku, głównie poprzez redukcję załogi o około 10 proc. Obecnie firma zatrudnia 11,6 tys. pracowników, a zatem posady może stracić ok. 1,2 tys. osób. Zwolnienia obejmą oddziały na całym świecie i potrwają do końca I kw. 2012 roku. 

Redukcji ma towarzyszyć zwiększanie wydajności. Dzięki temu AMD spodziewa się zaoszczędzić około 90 mln dol. kosztów operacyjnych w 2012 r. (niezależnie od planu restrukturyzacji), w związku z czym oszczędności planowane na 2012 r. powinny wynieść w sumie 200 mln dol.

Restrukturyzacja oznacza także koszty. Firma szacuje, że w IV kw. 2011 wyniosą one ok. 101 mln dol., a w 2012 r. ok. 4 mln dol. Około 56 milionów dolarów z całkowitego kosztu restrukturyzacji będzie sfinansowane w 2011 roku, 33 mln dol. w 2012 roku i 15 mln dol. w 2013 r.
