Jak wynika z informacji z firm z łańcucha dostaw, koncern zamierzał korzystać z usług chińskich dostawców, aby zaoszczędzić, ale okazało się efekt jest odwrotny do zamierzonego – wydatki Lenovo w związku z zakupami komponentów w Chinach wzrosły. W sytuacji nasycenia rynku PC, na którym producent jest czołowym graczem, zwiększanie dostaw nie jest sposobem na poprawę rentowności, stąd Lenovo zamierza skupić się na zyskach. Z tego też powodu koncentruje się na rosnących segmentach PC: modelach ultracienkich i gamingowych. Jednakże potrzebują one wysokiej jakości komponentów, a chińscy poddostawcy nie spełniają wymagań.

Koncern zamierza zaoszczędzić 1,35 mld dol. i zmniejszać zatrudnienie o 3,2 tys. osób rocznie. Jak informuje Digitimes, Lenovo chce także zredukować wydatki na badania i rozwój.

W przypadku notebooków 11- i 13-calowych dotąd było to trudne, ze względu na różne procesory. Aby to umożliwić, modele tych formatów, planowane do wprowadzenia na rynek w przyszłym roku, mają być projektowane pod te same lub porównywalne CPU.
