Wolniejszy niż oczekiwano wzrost jest związany z komodyzacją produktów do ochrony punktów końcowych i poczty elektronicznej  (w obu wypadkach dotyczy to także oferty konsumenckiej). Nasycenie rynku w tych segmentach skutkowało presją na ceny. Przychody w skali globalnej zwiększyły się natomiast głównie dzięki inwestycjom organizacji, co z kolei jest związane z rosnącą liczbą zagrożeń oraz faktem, że obecnie – jak to ujął analityk Gartnera – każda firma staje się firmą technologiczną, czyli IT odgrywa w niej kluczową rolę. Dla podmiotów biznesowych istotna jest ochrona danych oraz obrona przed zaawansowanymi atakami.

W ub.r. 5 największych producentów odpowiadało za 42,5 proc. sprzedaży na globalnym rynku. Po raz pierwszy od lat do czołówki weszła firma, która nie jest wyspecjalizowana w produktach zabezpieczających. To IBM, który zepchnął z 3. miejsca w rankingu Trend Micro.
