]]> Gigant z Redmond przygotowuje nowy system operacyjny: Modern OS. Prace nad nim trwają już prawdopodobnie od kilku lat. W porównaniu z Windows aktualizacje w Modern OS będą instalowane w tle, bez potrzeby przerywania pracy. Koncern zapewnia, że system będzie domyślnie zabezpieczony, dzięki odseparowaniu aplikacji i środowiska operacyjnego. Ma być także zgodny z 5G, ale też ze starszymi standardami łączności bezprzewodowej, umożliwiając komunikację różnych urządzeń (jak IoT), dzięki temu użytkownik będzie "always connected".

Z przedstawionej wizji Modern OS wynika, że będzie można obsługiwać go na różne sposoby, nie tylko klawiaturą, myszką czy elektronicznym piórem, lecz także z pomocą głosu i wzroku. Powinien umożliwiać bezproblemowy dostęp do chmury – nie tylko do danych, ale również do mocy obliczeniowej. Zapowiedziano ponadto wykorzystanie narzędzi sztucznej inteligencji. System ma pozwolić też na długi czas pracy urządzenia na baterii.

Koncern nie podaje, kiedy nowy system może być gotowy w wersji komercyjnej, ani czy zastąpi on Windows 10. Wcześniej pojawiały się informacje o pracach nad nowym systemem nazywanym Windows Lite.
