W styczniu br. Lenovo podpisało z IBM wstępną umowę przejęcia działu serwerów x86 za 2,3 mld dol. Szef chińskiego koncernu, Yuanqing Yang, liczy na to, że sprawa zostanie pomyślnie zakończona do grudnia br. Póki co jednak amerykańskie władze obawiają zagrożenia bezpieczeństwa narodowego, w związku z tym, że serwery IBM używane są instytucjach rządowych. Z kolei Yuanqing Yang przypomina, że produkty Lenovo nigdy nie stanowiły i nie stanowią zagrożenia dla użytkowników.
