]]> Zgodnie z zawartym kontraktem spółka celowa Japan Industrial Partners – SPC – przejmie aktywa i działalność operacyjną biznesu PC Sony pod marką Vaio w Japonii. Transakcja ma zostać sfinalizowana do 1 lipca br. Projektowaniem, produkcją i sprzedażą komputerów Vaio oraz powiązanych z nimi produktów zajmie się spółka o nazwie Vaio Corporation (ma rozpocząć działalność 1 czerwca br.). Jej udziałowcami są Japan Industrial Partners (95 proc.) oraz Sony (5 proc.). Kapitał zakładowy wynosi 1 mld jenów (ok. 9,8 mln dol.). Firma będzie zatrudniać 240 pracowników. Sony informuje, że także po wycofaniu się z rynku PC klienci będą mieli zapewniony serwis zakupionych dotychczas maszyn Vaio.

O podpisaniu wstępnej umowy sprzedaży działu Vaio oficjalnie poinformowano na początku lutego br. Decyzja o pozbyciu się biznesu PC przez Sony jest związana z jego słabymi wynikami. Spółka odpisze 30 mld jenów (ok. 295 mln dol.) w bilansie minionego roku finansowego (zakończył się 31 marca br.), ze względu na spadającą sprzedaż PC. Oprócz słabego popytu na komputery na całym rynku, do zakupów Vaio w I kw. br. klientów dodatkowo mogła zniechęcić informacja, że biznes ten zmieni właściciela.

Sony po raz trzeci obniżyło prognozę wyników finansowych za ub. rok finansowy – strata ma wynieść 130 mld jenów (ok. 1,27 mld dol.) zamiast przewidywanej poprzednio 110 mld jenów. Pełne wyniki będą znane 14 maja. Sony ma wówczas podać koszty związane ze sprzedażą działu Vaio. W lutym nieoficjalnie padała kwota ok. 0,5 mld dol. jako wartość transakcji.
