Według agencji, która powołuje się na informatorów znających sprawę, wartość sprzedaży Allegro może sięgnąć 3 mld dol., wliczając w to długi. Tym niemniej nadal nie ma ostatecznej decyzji w kwestii akwizycji i przejęcie przez wspomniane fundusze nie jest pewne.

Allegro należy obecnie do południowoafrykańskiej korporacji Naspers. Zostało kupione w 2008 r. za blisko 1 mld funtów.  Nieoficjalnie Naspers rozważa sprzedaż nie tylko polskiego serwisu, lecz także spółek z grupy Allegro. W końcu września podpisano umowę sprzedaży należącego do grupy czeskiego serwisu aukcyjnego aukro.cz. Przypuszczalnie także porównywarka Ceneo może zmienić właściciela.

Reuters podawał we wrześniu, że oferty złożyły 4 konsorcja funduszy. Oprócz wymienionych są to także Advent wraz z Hellman & Friedman, a także Apax Partners z CPP Investment Board. Zainteresowany ma być również eBay.
