]]> Sygnatariusze porozumienia będą wspierać samorządy w planowaniu i realizacji inwestycji, finansowanych w 100 proc. ze środków publicznych, w tym w 85 proc. ze środków unijnych. 

Trzy firmy pomogą przygotować projekt wykorzystania funduszy UE na lata 2007-2013. Mają powstać analizy, umożliwiające ocenę możliwości wspólnego działania. Kolejnym krokiem będzie opracowanie projektu budowy i eksploatacji sieci telekomunikacyjnych w województwach Polski wschodniej oraz w niektórych innych regionach.

Inicjatywa może przyspieszyć budowę sieci szybkiego Internetu, która na razie idzie jak po grudzie. Polsce przyznano prawie 1,5 mld euro na rozwój infrastruktury szerokopasmowej w latach 2007-2013, w tym 300 mln euro na realizację programu „Sieć Szerokopasmowa Polski Wschodniej”. Z tej puli wykorzystano dotychczas kilka procent środków. 

Porozumienie ma pomóc w realizacji w naszym kraju założeń Europejskiej Agendy Cyfrowej – według niej do 2013 roku wszyscy obywatele UE mają mieć zapewniony dostęp do szybkiego Internetu, a w 2020 r. każdy mieszkaniec powinien korzystać z łącza o przepustowości co najmniej 30 Mb/s.
