W minionym roku dostawcy NAS-ów nie mogli narzekać na nudę. Zaczęło się od przysłowiowego trzęsienia ziemi, a więc wybuchu epidemii w Chinach, co w przypadku niektórych marek spowodowało kłopoty z dostawami sprzętu do Europy. Jednocześnie, wraz z rosnącą paniką na naszym kontynencie, część tutejszych przedsiębiorstw, niepewna jutra, zamroziła wydatki. Jednak w kolejnych kwartałach nastąpiła stabilizacja, a konieczność zapewnienia milionom osób odpowiednych warunków do pracy zdalnej sprawiła, że popyt na NAS-y zaczął rosnąć, zwłaszcza w IV kw. ub.r. Dotyczyło to oczywiście branż, które nie zostały zamknięte z powodu pandemii. Przykładowo, sporo zamówień spływało od biur rachunkowych i firm prawniczych, ale też od firm deweloperskich, które bez większych przeszkód kontynuowały zaplanowane jeszcze przed pandemią prace budowlane.

W sumie, jeśli wziąć pod uwagę opinie producentów i integratorów, poprzedni rok był pod względem sprzedaży podobny do 2019, a w niektórych przypadkach nawet nieco lepszy. Nie w pełni potwierdzają to jednak dystrybutorzy, zwracając uwagę chociażby na spadek popytu w sektorze MŚP.

– Pandemia mocno zachwiała stabilnością finansową mniejszych firm, a ich właściciele ograniczyli wydatki, nie uznając serwerów NAS za urządzenia pierwszej potrzeby – wyjaśnia Małgorzata Moskal, Product Manager w Veracompie.

Z drugiej strony zasadniczym czynnikiem generującym popyt na NAS-y było przejście na pracę zdalną, co wymogło na wielu firmach inwestycje w infrastrukturę IT, w tym związane z kwestią bezpieczeństwa danych.

– NAS-y stały się ważnym towarzyszem i stróżem bezpiecznej pracy zdalnej. Począwszy od uzyskiwania dostępu do plików z innej lokalizacji, synchronizacji z urządzeniami mobilnymi, po kontrolę dostępu do danych z kopii zapasowych – komentuje Wojciech Krajewicz, menedżer rozwoju produktów w Impakcie, który jest dystrybutorem Asustora.

Ważnym argumentem przy zakupie NAS-a była możliwość uruchomienia darmowego serwera VPN. Jeden z integratorów ocenił, że wzrost zapotrzebowania na sieci prywatne sięgnął aż 800 proc. w porównaniu z danymi za rok 2019. Ponadto w „pandemiczne” potrzeby małych i średnich firm trafiały takie funkcje NAS-ów, jak możliwość stworzenia chmury prywatnej, mechanizmy synchronizacji i backupu danych, czy migawki, jako mechanizm chroniący dane przed ransomware’m. Jak przekonuje Łukasz Milic, Business Development Representative w QNAP-ie, dobrym argumentem sprzedażowym okazywały się darmowe rozwiązania SD-WAN. Co nie dziwi, skoro pozwalają rozproszonej firmie na wydajne i bezpieczne połączenia między różnymi lokalizacjami, bez potrzeby kupowania dedykowanego sprzętu czy opłacania licencji.

W każdym razie pandemia najwyraźniej nie zmieniła podejścia drobnych przedsiębiorców do inwestycji. Podobnie, jak w poprzednich latach, nie są oni skłonni wydawać więcej niż to konieczne. Jak zauważa Tomasz Kowalski, dyrektor generalny Inter-Comp.Pl, żywotność NAS-ów wynosi 5 – 6 lat i jeśli wszystko działa, firmy nie kupują nowych modeli. Z drugiej strony dążenie do optymalizacji wydatków może przekładać się na wzrost popytu na NAS-y.

– Wielu przedsiębiorców szuka obecnie oszczędności, więc bardzo często zastanawia się, czy warto kupować kolejny duży serwer z segmentu A-brand. W minionym roku znacząco zwiększyliśmy sprzedaż w segmencie biznesowym. Okres pandemii spowodował przeniesienie pracy z biur do domów i wymusił na działach IT duże zmiany w organizacji dostępu pracowników do danych i ich zabezpieczenia. Przede wszystkim wzrosło zainteresowanie klientów biznesowych rozwiązaniami VPN, które umożliwiają zdalny dostęp do firmowej sieci. Tutaj pojawiły się możliwości dla NAS-ów, które nie dość, że posiadają wbudowane serwery, to dodatkowo zwykle mają na tyle wydajne podzespoły, by wziąć na siebie te role. Nie możemy też zapominać o bardziej podstawowych funkcjach, jak możliwość stworzenia chmury prywatnej, mechanizmy synchronizacji i backupu danych czy  mechanizm migawek.

W 2021 r. kluczowa będzie rentowność inwestycji i efektywność rozwiązań IT. Do tej pory bardzo często bywało tak, że dział IT dostawał określony budżet i kupował za to sprzęt, nieważne, czy był on niezbędny. W 2020 r. takie podejście się zmieniło. Bardzo często, zanim zapadnie decyzja, rozwiązanie jest testowane i weryfikowane pod względem opłacalności i zwrotu inwestycji na przestrzeni kilku lat i to jest bardzo pozytywny trend. Istotne więc będzie to, czy producent NAS-ów będzie w stanie zaoferować produkt odpowiadający na zapotrzebowanie rynku, czyli integrację rozproszonego środowiska IT i usług, kopie końcówek nie tylko wewnątrz firmy, ale także poza siecią firmową, a także bezpieczeństwo całego rozwiązania i zaawansowane funkcje, nie wymagające ogromnych środków na szkolenia. Analitycy MarketsandMarkets zakładają, że do 2025 roku na rynku NAS-ów najszybciej będzie rosła sprzedaż w segmencie hybrydowym. Napędza go potrzeba przechowywania kopii zapasowych w chmurze. Jedną z zalet modelu hybrydowego jest to, że łączy on lokalną kontrolę nad infrastrukturą, bezpieczeństwem i danymi z elastycznością środowiska chmurowego.

  

Według integratorów większość firm wykorzystuje NAS-y do backupu, ale średnie przedsiębiorstwa coraz częściej także do wirtualizacji zasobów. Normą staje się backup do chmury – obecnie gros klientów wybiera taką właśnie opcję, zwłaszcza gdy nie wiąże się to z dodatkowym kosztem.

Firmy potrzebują większej wydajności

Przed pandemią wymóg prędkości na poziomie 10 GbE pojawiał się incydentalnie, ale potem oczekiwania klientów odnośnie do wydajności infrastruktury wyraźnie wzrosły i zaczęły nawet pojawiać się pytania o 25 GbE. Równocześnie popularyzują się dyski SSD, co ma właśnie związek z poprawą przepustowości. Dotychczas nie do końca można było wykorzystać ich możliwości w macierzach, ze względu na wolne połączenie sieciowe. Jednak przy 10 Gb instalacja SSD nabiera większego sensu. Oczekiwany jest również dalszy wzrost pożądanej pojemności, a klienci coraz częściej pytają nawet o 10-terabajtowe modele.

Jak zauważył jeden z integratorów, warto przy tym pamiętać o każdorazowym upewnieniu się, czy klient rzeczywiście potrzebuje SSD, ponieważ dane z takiego nośnika są trudniejsze do odtworzenia niż w przypadku HDD. Jeśli zatem coś złego się stanie, integrator może mieć problem z niezadowolonym klientem. Trzeba zatem jasno uświadomić klientowi, jakie są ryzyka oraz korzyści. Oczywiście są przypadki, w których szybkie dyski są niezbędne, jak – dajmy na to – w małej klinice medycznej, gdzie niezbędny jest dostęp wielu użytkowników do zdjęć medycznych.

Resellerzy: nie sprzęt, ale doradztwo

Integratorzy zwracając uwagę na istotną zmianę, jaka zaszła w świadomości użytkowników, którzy coraz powszechniej zdają sobie sprawę, że potrzebna jest kopia w drugiej lokalizacji, wykonywana przynajmniej raz w tygodniu, a najważniejsze pliki najlepiej transferować do chmury. Ostatnio klienci oczekują też lepszych warunków gwarancji, takich jak 5 lat NBD (Next Business Day), czyli bardziej niż w poprzednich latach zależy im na ograniczeniu ryzyka przestojów.

Dobrą wiadomością dla integratorów są przewidywania analityków, którzy zapowiadają rosnące zapotrzebowanie na usługi zarządzane, doradztwo, szkolenia i wsparcie posprzedażne. Według prognoz Fortune Business Insights przychody z tym związane mają mieć największy udział w globalnym torcie NAS, co potwierdzają sprzedawcy z polskiego rynku.

W ubiegłym roku NAS-y cieszyły się większym niż w poprzednich latach popytem wśród małych i średnich firm. Co istotne, zainteresowanie widzimy w wielu branżach, przykładowo w tym roku realizowaliśmy wdrożenia w agencjach reklamowych, drukarniach, budżetówce. Mniej jest jednak zamówień publicznych na takie rozwiązania, ze względu na wstrzymane inwestycje. Rośnie przy tym świadomość klientów z segmentu MŚP, dotycząca potrzeby ochrony danych, na przykład w formie backupu, jak i bezpiecznego dostępu do nich. Przykładowo, w ubiegłym roku wyraźnie wzrosło zainteresowanie VPN-em ze względu na rozproszenie pracowników. Obserwując zapotrzebowanie na dyski sieciowe w sektorze MŚP i oczekiwania klientów, wydaje się, że co najmniej przez najbliższych kilka lat popyt na tego rodzaju rozwiązania lokalne będzie silny i raczej nieprędko zostaną one zastąpione przez usługi chmurowe.

Z kolei duże instytucje i korporacje były zainteresowane rozwiązaniami macierzowymi typu unified. Klienci cenili je przede wszystkim za możliwość przydzielenia części przestrzeni na dostęp blokowy, z zastosowaniem protokołów FC i iSCSI, oraz części na dostęp plikowy – typowy dla NAS – z protokołami SMB/CIFS i NFS.
