W budynkach biurowych, salach widowiskowych czy wykładowych przybywa interaktywnych ekranów oraz ścian wideo, rozwiązania AV stały się więc w ostatnich latach szczególnie gorącym tematem także dla producentów rozwiązań sieciowych. Od wyposażenia dużych korporacyjnych sal konferencyjnych przez instalacje digital signage, po salki „huddle room” – AV stało się sposobem tworzenia nowego środowiska pracy, które bardziej angażuje użytkowników i umożliwia interakcje w czasie rzeczywistym.

Zainteresowanie producentów sieci IT tym obszarem wynika z tego, że przez ostatnie lata w branży proAV przyspieszyło zastępowanie tradycyjnych instalacji audio-wideo infrastrukturą IP. Standard AV over IP wprowadza bowiem fundamentalną zmianę – umożliwia przesyłanie dźwięku i obrazu w pakietach.

Z punktu widzenia integracji, wdrożenie AV over IP jest znacznie mniej czasochłonne i bardziej ekonomiczne niż tradycyjne AV. Wyeliminowany jest długi proces prowadzenia specjalistycznych kabli od procesora sterującego do każdego elementu instalacji, zakańczania złączy i późniejszego testowania wszystkiego. AV over IP daje też znacznie większe możliwości skalowania, gdyż umożliwia podłączenie kolejnych przełączników IP w celu rozszerzenia konfiguracji.

Wobec szybkiego rozwoju oferty rozwiązań sieciowych AV over IP, na pierwszy plan w projektowaniu instalacji audio-wideo wysuwa się temat konwergencji AV/IT. Jej przeprowadzenie daje możliwość jednoczesnego korzystania z danych, komunikacji oraz sygnału AV przy użyciu tej samej infrastruktury sieciowej. W alternatywnym scenariuszu AV over IP jest wdrażane w całkowicie odseparowanej sieci, która nie jest połączona z firmową infrastrukturą sieciową dla danych.

Z jednej strony za konwergencją, czyli umieszczeniem urządzeń AV w sieci IT, przemawiają możliwości stworzenia skonsolidowanego zarządzania i pojedynczego wsparcia oraz oszczędności na kosztach infrastruktury. Z drugiej strony, chociaż korzyści z konwergencji mogą być znaczące, to wiąże się ona z potencjalnie istotnymi wyzwaniami dotyczącymi kompresji sygnału i bezpieczeństwa sieci. Dlatego utrzymanie wyraźnej granicy między sieciami i aplikacjami AV i IT ma wciąż swoich zwolenników. Bez względu na wybór podejścia, wiedza o możliwościach zapewnianych przez AV over IP daje integratorom IT szansę na rozwinięcie swojego biznesu w zupełnie nowym, nieeksplorowanym dotąd obszarze.

Standard Wi-Fi 6 otworzył nowe możliwości, jeżeli chodzi o przepustowość WLAN, która przestała być wąskim gardłem firmowych sieci. Prędkość nawet powyżej 1 Gb/s podczas transmisji bezprzewodowej stała się jak najbardziej osiągalna. Zastosowanie infrastruktury sieciowej w standardzie Wi-Fi 6 wymusza również modernizację infrastruktury przewodowej, ponieważ LAN będzie nieodłącznym i ważnym elementem jeszcze przez długi czas. Między innymi dlatego, że stanowi bazę do budowy innych systemów: sieci bezprzewodowych, monitoringu wizyjnego czy też systemów automatyki budynkowej. Wciąż nieobce są także sytuacje, kiedy administratorzy firmowych sieci preferują połączenia przewodowe, między innymi z powodów bezpieczeństwa. Infrastruktura kablowa fizycznie uniemożliwia podłączenie prywatnych urządzeń pracowników, takich jak telefony, do firmowej sieci.
