Jednak sposób korzystania z aplikacji wyraźnie się zmienia. W szybkim tempie rośnie liczba organizacji decydujących się na zakup oprogramowania w modelu SaaS – według Gartnera w bieżącym roku wartość tego segmentu rynku wyniesie niemal 176 mld dolarów, a rok później już 208 mld dolarów.

To oznacza, że odbiorcy biznesowi zaczną coraz rzadziej kupować programy z „pudełka”. W teorii powinno to ułatwić zawiłą politykę licencyjną, a także ograniczyć piractwo oraz ciągnące się długimi miesiącami audyty przeprowadzane przez dostawców oprogramowania.

Nie są to dobre wieści dla dostawców systemów SAM (Software Asset Management). A nie jest przy tym żadną tajemnicą, że najczęściej w tego typu rozwiązania inwestują organizacje, które mają już za sobą zazwyczaj niemiłe doświadczenia związane z audytem. Dlatego specjaliści śledzący ten segment rynku uważają, że zamiast straszyć kijem, lepiej pokazać przedsiębiorcom marchewkę, czyli oszczędności, jakie niesie ze sobą wdrożenie SAM. Tym bardziej, że postępująca adaptacja SaaS nie rozwiązuje wszystkich problemów związanych z zarządzaniem aplikacjami. Co więcej, nie brakuje opinii, że nawet je pogłębia. Większość firm korzysta z różnych rodzajów oprogramowania i modeli rozliczeniowych, co prowadzi do sporego chaosu.

Wprawdzie SaaS zapewnia oszczędności, ale może również generować zbędne koszty. Łatwość korzystania z usługi prowadzi czasami do marnotrawstwa. Szczególnie celują w tym działy marketingu i sprzedaży używające aplikacji chmurowych bez wiedzy działów IT. W rezultacie programy się duplikują, a część z nich zostaje porzucona i zapomniana po zaledwie kilku miesiącach użytkowania. Niejednokrotnie bywa tak, że jeden dział firmy korzysta z Zooma, a inny z GoToMeeting. Jak widać, wbrew temu, co obiecują promotorzy SaaS, wydatki na oprogramowanie wcale nie muszą spaść wraz z migracją do chmury.

– Często klienci przepłacają za SaaS nawet o 50 proc., wykupując drogie, nieadekwatne do własnych potrzeb plany taryfowe. Najczęściej wynika to z braku możliwości oceny realnych wymagań lub promocji cenowych.
