Kiedyś dużym graczom na rynku IT nawet nie śniło się, że open source jest w stanie stworzyć realną alternatywę dla rozwiązań komercyjnych. To się zmieniło i nastąpiła szeroko pojęta profesjonalizacja otwartych rozwiązań. Dlatego często firmy przechodzą na lżejsze, w porównaniu z komercyjnymi, technologie, które jednocześnie są dużo bardziej dostępne. Widać to doskonale w obszarze middleware, gdzie często słyszymy o instalacji na przykład serwerów aplikacyjnych stricte open source’owych, baz danych, jak PostgreSQL albo baz noSQL. Dla firmy technologicznej, takiej jak nasza, obszar middleware jest nadal najbardziej widoczny i użyteczny. Natomiast patrząc szerzej, nie sposób nie zauważyć ogromnego zainteresowania rozwiązaniami open source w obszarze Big Data.

Trudności gospodarcze, jakie wywołała epidemia Covid-19, zmusiły niemal wszystkie organizacje do radzenia sobie w niepewnych warunkach prowadzenia działalności. Żeby szybciej pokonywać te trudności, przygotować się na to, co nieznane, trzeba było nie tylko zadbać o bieżącą działalność, ale także szukać kreatywnych sposobów na dalszy rozwój. Obniżenie kosztów bazowych, wprowadzanie transformacji cyfrowej i nowych, innowacyjnych produktów czy usług to obecnie nowa normalność. Open source sprawia, że nie trzeba już wybierać pomiędzy niższymi kosztami a przygotowaniem swojej firmy na rozwój. Pierwszym wyzwaniem było utrzymanie ciągłości biznesowej, umożliwienie zdalnej pracy, zapewnienie sprawnego funkcjonowania usług online i łańcuchów dostaw. Oprócz krótkoterminowej „akcji ratunkowej” trzeba było też szukać sposobów na szybszą absorpcję innowacji, w tym sprawniejsze dostarczanie aplikacji przy jednoczesnej kontroli kosztów.
