Rozszerzona rzeczywistość, algorytmy predykcyjne i systemy sterowania korzystające ze sztucznej inteligencji pozwalają osiągnąć niesłychaną efektywność w logistyce, produkcji i konserwacji skomplikowanych systemów. Wszystkie te innowacje wymagają systemów obliczeniowych o dużej gęstości upakowania. A te z kolei potrzebują dużej mocy obliczeniowej i dużej ilości energii elektrycznej. Niestety, konwencjonalne metody są mało skuteczne w radzeniu sobie z ciepłem generowanym przez coraz bardziej wydajne procesory i serwery.

Wcześniej dobrym wyborem wydawało się zastosowanie powietrza. W końcu jest „darmowe” i można je łatwo rozprowadzić do wielu szaf serwerowych, stosując w tym celu klimatyzatory CRAC i CRAH oraz wentylatory. Jednak powietrze nie sprawdza się dobrze jako medium przenoszące ciepło.

Przykładowo, wynikające z pierwszej zasady termodynamiki obliczenia pokazują, że w przypadku serwerów z wieloma procesorami o mocy 400+ watów potrzeba wymiany powietrza z szybkością huraganu i to dosyć chłodnego (ok. 10°C). W większości przypadków robi się więc za głośno, za drogo i niepraktycznie.

Dlatego, aby pokonać termiczne ograniczenia powietrza, od wielu lat entuzjaści gier komputerowych stosują rurki chłodzenia doprowadzające wodę do zimnych płytek zamocowanych bezpośrednio na procesorach. Pompowanie wody przez zimne płytki przymocowane do procesorów ma szereg zalet, ale niesie za sobą znaczne ryzyko awarii i generuje koszty związane z potrzebą konserwacji. Jedna kropla wody w złym miejscu może oznaczać trwałe uszkodzenie drogich procesorów lub innych komponentów. Ponadto z biegiem czasu woda przyczynia się do korozji wielu materiałów.

2PLC znosi dotychczasowe ograniczenia

Odpowiedzią na powyższe problemy jest dwufazowe, niewykorzystujące wody chłodzenie cieczowe bezpośrednio na mikroukładzie (2PLC). Bardzo dobrze radzi sobie zarówno z niewielkim, jak i dużym obciążeniem cieplnym. Umożliwia zastosowanie lekkiej, kompaktowej konstrukcji oraz dużych gęstości upakowania, nie powoduje ryzyka uszkodzenia sprzętu IT, a płyn dielektryczny nie wymaga monitorowania ani konserwacji.

Chłodzenie 2PLC można teraz bezproblemowo integrować z szafami rack i centrami danych. Technologia odpowiada na dzisiejsze wymagania obliczeniowe, a jednocześnie oszczędza przestrzeń i energię. Ponadto ma praktycznie nieograniczoną zdolność do obsłużenia dowolnego procesora o wysokiej mocy, którego mogą wymagać obecne i przyszłe innowacje.

Wykorzystujące technologię 2PLC rozwiązanie Rittal High Density Cooled-by-ZutaCore jest dostępne w dwóch wersjach – jako samodzielny system in-rack oraz integracja z systemem chłodzenia w tylnych drzwiach szafy serwerowej. Oba warianty znoszą ograniczenia tradycyjnych technologii chłodzenia na wszystkich poziomach: mikroukładu, serwera, szafy, wyspy oraz centrum danych.

Rozwiązanie in-rack jako jedyne obsługuje moc obliczeniową do 15 kW przy zastosowaniu chłodzonego powietrzem skraplacza in-rack i moc obliczeniową 70 kW – z chłodzonym wodą skraplaczem in-rack. Klimatyzatory in-rack można równolegle skalować, tworząc moduły wieloszafowe, obsługiwane przez skraplacze rzędowe.

W drugim wariancie tylne drzwi standardowej szafy lub szafy OCP zastępowane są wymiennikiem ciepła (RHx), składającym się z wentylatorów i skraplacza chłodzonego powietrzem. Wentylatory zapewniają przepływ powietrza o wymaganej objętości przez szafę – od przodu do tyłu – przenosząc ciepło poza szafę.

Łatwe wdrożenie w każdej infrastrukturze

Bezwodny system 2PLC stanowi jedyne w swoim rodzaju połączenie samoregulującego, dostępnego na żądanie niskociśnieniowego chłodzenia obiegiem zamkniętym w ramach dobrze zintegrowanego rozwiązania. System ten „zagęszcza” centra danych – od małych do wielkoskalowych – zarówno te modernizowane, jak i nowo budowane.

Co jest niezwykle istotne rozwiązanie działa na zasadzie „plug-and-play”, a dzięki chłodzonemu powietrzem wymiennikowi RHx dzisiejsze najbardziej zaawansowane technicznie, innowacyjne systemy obliczeniowe o dużej gęstości upakowania można wdrożyć w istniejącej już, chłodzonej powietrzem infrastrukturze centrum danych. Zmniejszenie rozmiarów infrastruktury chłodniczej wymaganej przez nowy serwer lub centrum danych jest tak łatwe jak wdrożenie nowej szafy albo wymiana tylnych drzwi w obecnie używanej.

2PLC potraja gęstość upakowania instalacji obliczeniowych, zajmując jedynie ułamek miejsca i zachowując regularne osiągi przy najniższym współczynniku efektywności zużycia energii (PUE) i najwyższej efektywności, w dowolnym klimacie. Dzięki temu centrum danych zmniejsza swoje wymiary, pozwalając na oszczędności na kosztach energii i powierzchni.
