WD: pierwsze na świecie 5-milimetrowe dyski twarde
Producent rozpoczął sprzedaż 2,5-calowych dysków o grubości 5 mm oraz napędów hybrydowych SSDH.
Nośniki 5 mm HDD WD Blue oraz WD Black SSHD są wysyłane do producentów OEM. Obudowa jest według producenta o 36 proc. lżejsza w porównaniu ze standardowym dyskiem 9,5 mm. Odporność na wstrząsy sięga 400 G (podczas pracy) i 1000 G (w stanie spoczynku). W dyskach Blue 5 mm zastosowano nowe miniaturowe złącze SFF-8784. Konektor jest połączony i zasilany z hosta magistrali I/O za pośrednictwem interfejsu SATA złącza SFF-8784. Producent zapewnia, że zabezpieczenie wałka silnika dysku (StableTrac) zmniejsza wibracje, poprawiając wydajność, a system pozycjonowania głowic z dwoma serwomechanizmami zwiększa dokładność.
