Verizon rezygnuje z chmury publicznej
Klienci operatora mają niecałe dwa miesiące na rezygnację z usługi public cloud, która będzie świadczona jeszcze tylko do 12 kwietnia br. Użytkownicy są zmuszeni do przeniesienie swoich danych w inne miejsce. W przeciwnym razie będą one bezpowrotnie utracone.
Verizon Communications zamierza
nadal świadczyć usługę Virtual Private Cloud oraz Cloud Storage. W
przypadku chmury publicznej dostawca nie wytrzymał konkurencji ze strony takich
potentatów, jak chociażby Amazon z usługą Amazon Cloud Services. Niedawno do
mediów wyciekła informacja, że Verizon zamierza sprzedać swoje centra danych
zlokalizowane w Stanach Zjednoczonych. W ten sposób, jak doniósł Reuters, chce
pozyskać około 2,5 mld dol. na inwestycje w swój core business.
Operator nie zamierza jednak
rezygnować z działania na rynku korporacyjnym i urzędów publicznych, którym
oferuje usługę chmury prywatnej. W tym zakresie przedstawiciele Verizona
zapowiadają znaczące inwestycje w 2016 r.
