Dyrektor generalny Nutanix, Dheeraj Pandey, nie zgadza się z rankingiem największych dostawców na rynku oprogramowania hiperkonwergentnego, jaki opublikowało IDC. Nutanix w segmencie oprogramowania okazał się graczem numer 2, za VMware. Znalazł się także na drugim miejscu w globalnej kategorii systemów HCI za Dell Technologies.

„Jako dostawca oprogramowania do infrastruktury hiperkonwergentnej uważamy, że Nutanix nie powinien być uwzględniany w opartej na sprzęcie analizie rynku, takiej jak ta, która dzieli nasz udział w rynku oprogramowania na naszych partnerów OEM” – oświadczył dyrektor według amerykańskiego CRN-a.

Pandey uważa, że dokładniejsza metodologia badawcza IDC dotycząca samego oprogramowania, pokaże Nutanixa jako niekwestionowanego lidera rynku oprogramowania hiperkonwergentnego w porównaniu z VMware.

IDC klasyfikuje dostawców na rynku oprogramowania infrastruktury hiperkonwergentnej (HCI), według właściciela software’u, zapewniającego podstawowe funkcje hiperkonwergentne.

Jednak dane IDC dotyczące udziału w rynku oprogramowania obejmują również sprzedaż urządzeń, odzwierciedlając ranking według sprzedanego sprzętu HCI, software’u HCI i oprogramowania infrastruktury systemów.

Nutanix twierdzi, że takie podejście stawia go w niekorzystnej sytuacji w rankingach w porównaniu z konkurentami, w tym VMware i Dell Technologies, które osiągnęły przychody na rynku HCI dzięki integracji oprogramowania VMware ze sprzętem Della.

Nutanix był pionierem na rynku urządzeń HCI, ale ostatnich latach skoncentrował sie na oprogramowaniu. Obecnie mniej niż 1 proc. przychodów generuje na sprzedaży urządzeń.

IDC odmówił komentarza w sprawie protestu Nutaniksa. Nie komentują go również Dell i VMware.

W informacji na temat rankingów dostawców hiperkonwergentnych IDC podaje natomiast, że sprzedaż sprzętu jest głównym czynnikiem wpływającym na dane.

W rankingu dostawców infrastruktury hiperkonwergentnej Nutanix w II kw. 2020 r. według IDC zajął drugie miejsce z 13,6 proc. udziałem ze sprzedażą 253 mln dol. podczas gdy Dell okazał się numerem 1 z 27,9 proc. udziałem w rynku i obrotami 520 mln dol.

Z kolei VMware był wg IDC największym globalnym dostawcą oprogramowania HCI z 38,9-procentowym udziałem, generując 723 mln dol. przychodów. Nutanix uplasował się na drugim miejscu z 29,8-procentowym udziałem, generując 554 mln dol. ze sprzedaży hiperkonwergentnego oprogramowania.
