testowa programu SkyBender prowadzonego przez Google’a. Działania mają na celu
zaoferowanie przez firmę nowego standardu bezprzewodowej transmisji danych,
nawet 40 razy szybszego niż LTE.
Do realizacji
zamysłu firma chce wykorzystać tysiące zamieszczonych w przestrzeni powietrznej
dronów zasilanych energią słoneczną (Google w 2014 roku zakupił startup Titan
Aerospace, specjalizujący się w budowie wysoko wynoszonych i zasilanych energią
słoneczną dronów o rozpiętości skrzydeł powyżej pięćdziesięciu metrów.). Mają
być wyposażone w moduły nadawczo-odbiorcze fal milimetrowych, które umożliwiają
dostęp do nowych częstotliwości, nie przepełnionych jak te, wykorzystywane
przez operatorów komórkowych. Specjaliści zaznaczają jednak, iż fale
milimetrowe mają dużo mniejszy zasięg niż sygnał komórkowy.
