Oracle ma plan 5-letni
W ciągu najbliższych 5 lat Oracle planuje rozbudowę oferty serwerów Sparc, produkowanych przez Sun Microsystems. Firma nie będzie już wytwarzać urządzeń typu x86 z platformami AMD.
Producent zapowiedział wprowadzanie na rynek do 2015 r. nowych wersji procesorów Sparc i przystosowanych do nich serwerów. Według planu Oracle ich wydajność co roku ma zwiększać się dwukrotnie. Jeśli założenia zostaną zrealizowane, za 5 lat najbardziej wydajny procesor Sparc będzie zawierać 128 rdzeni (w sumie 64 TB pamięci). Prawdopodobnie w przyszłym roku do oferty wejdzie nowy układ Utrasparc T3. Bliższe szczegóły dotyczące rozwoju wytwarzanych obecnie serii procesorów nie zostały jednak podane. Jeśli chodzi o serwery x86, to firma zamierza zrezygnować z produkcji maszyn przystosowanych do ukladów AMD. W tej klasie będą produkowane tylko serwery z platformami Intela. Oracle zapowiedział ponadto wprowadzenie do sprzedaży nowej wersji oprogramowania Solaris, znanego z oferty Sun Microsystems.
