Wprowadzenie na rynek nowego systemu zapowiedziała Tami
Reller, szefowa marketingu i finansów działu Windows (potwierdziła przy tym oficjalnie jego oznaczenie – 8.1). Określiła „Blue” jako zbiór aktualizacji. Bezpłatnie będą mogli go pobrać dotychczasowi użytkownicy Windows 8 oraz Windows RT. Nie wiadomo, czy 8.1 zostanie zaoferowany w jednej wersji, czy będzie też np. wydanie Pro.
Nie wiadomo, kiedy nowy Windows pojawi się w ofercie.
Według Tami Reller będzie dostępny przed okresem świątecznych zakupów w końcu
br. Wersja poglądowa zostanie natomiast zaprezentowana podczas konferencji
BUILD, która zaczyna się 26 czerwca.
