W minionym kwartale producent sprzedał dużo mniej smartfonów niż oczekiwano. Spadły obroty, strata przekroczyła 230 mln dol. 'Jesteśmy na dobrej drodze' - uspokaja szef firmy.
W IV kw. roku finansowego 2016, zakończonego 29 lutego, Blackberry sprzedał 600 tys. smartfonów, czyli o 1 mln mniej niż rok wcześniej. Analitycy spodziewali się co najmniej 750 tys. szt. Nie pomogło wprowadzenie na rynek pierwszego modelu z Androidem. Strata wyniosła 238 mln dol. wobec 28 mln dol. zysku w analogicznym kwartale ub.r. Przychody stopniały z 660 mln dol. do 464 mln dol., a w całym roku – z 3,34 mld dol. do 2,16 mld dol.
Obroty na sprzęcie spadły w sumie o 31 proc. CEO John Chen twierdzi jednak, że firma jest 'na dobrej drodze do osiągnięcia zysków’. Podkreśla, że wpływy ze sprzedaży oprogramowania i usług przekroczyły oczekiwania. W całym roku wyniosły 527 mln dol. Spodziewano się ok. 500 mln dol. W nowym roku finansowym ten biznes ma wzrosnąć o kolejne 30 proc.
