Miliardowy kontrakt Apple’a i Samsunga
Mimo sądowego sporu o patenty i zaciętej rywalizacji na rynku mobilnym dwaj giganci dogadali się - Samsung od 2017 r. będzie dostarczał wyświetlacze OLED do iPhone’ów – według koreańskiej prasy.
O wielkim kontrakcie informuje dziennik Korea Times. Według niego w ciągu 3 lat Samsung dostarczy Apple’owi 100 mln 5,5-calowych ekranów OLED do iPhone’ów. Wartość umowy wynosi 2,3 mld dol. rocznie. Koreańska firma nie skomentowała tych doniesień. Jak twierdzi dziennik, Samsung zamierza wybudować własną fabrykę ekranów OLED kosztem ponad 8 mld dol.
Mimo trwającego od lat sporu patentowego między Apple’m a Samsungiem, amerykański koncern pozostaje największym zewnętrznym klientem koreańskiego giganta, jeśli chodzi o dostawy podzespołów. Samsung produkuje m.in. procesory A9 do iPhone’ów i iPadów.
Według wcześniejszych informacji Apple uprzedził swoich kooperantów, że od 2017 r. zamierza oferować iPhone’y z ekranami OLED. Obecnie są one montowane w zegarkach Apple’a.
Na kontrakt z Apple’m na dostawę OLED-ów liczy Foxconn. Był to jeden z powodów zakupu Sharpa, który dysponuje odpowiednią technologią.
