Microsoft znosi ograniczenie wsparcia dla układów Skylake
Procesory Intel Core 6 generacji, czyli Skylake, będą działać z Windows 7 oraz 8.1 aż do zakończenia oficjalnego wsparcia tych systemów - poinformował Microsoft.
Na początku br. Microsoft ogłosił, że aktualna generacja CPU Intela będzie wspierać starsze systemy Windows do lipca 2017 r. Potem ten termin przedłużono do lipca 2018 r. Ograniczenie miało skłonić użytkowników, a zwłaszcza przedsiębiorstwa, do przyspieszenia migracji na Windows 10, aby nie powtórzył się przypadek używania przez wiele lat 'okienek’ poprzedniej generacji, tak jak to było z XP.
Teraz jednak koncern wycofał się z kontrowersyjnego pomysłu. Wsparcie np. dla Windows 7 zainstalowanego na komputerze z układami Skylake zakończy się w takim samym terminie, jak dla wszystkich innych CPU i PC, tzn. w styczniu 2020 r.
Kolejne generacje procesorów Intela, a także AMD i Qualcomma, mają jednak wspierać tylko Windows 10 – tak jak zapowiedziano w br.
