Lenovo zainteresowane RIM
Firma komputerowa rozważa przejęcie Research in Motion, kanadyjskiego producenta smartfonów.
RIM to tylko jedna z wielu spółek, którym się przyglądamy – poinformował Bloomberga Wong Wai Ming, dyrektor finansowy Lenovo. Producent powołał zespół, zajmujący się potencjalnymi akwizycjami. Na temat przejęcia rozmawiano już z RIM i bankami. Ming nie ujawnił, kiedy może zapaść decyzja w sprawie zakupu.
Lenovo w obliczu spadającego popytu na komputery (choć z dużych graczy radzi sobie najlepiej) chce zwiększyć obecność na rynku rozwiązań mobilnych. Przejmując RIM mogłoby rozwijać swoje technologie mobilne i skuteczniej konkurować z takimi firmami jak Apple i Samsung, korzystając z ponad 2 tys. patentów kanadyjskiej firmy. Obecnie giełdowa wartość RIM to 9,1 mld dol. Zdaniem jednego z analityków same patenty mogą być warte nawet 10 mld dol.
Ewentualna transakcja wymagałaby zgody kanadyjskich i amerykańskich regulatorów rynku, która nie jest taka pewna. Kanadyjski minister finansów nie należy do entuzjastów sprzedaży RIM Lenovo.
