Producent drastycznie obniżył prognozę sprzedaży w II kw. br. Powodem jest słaby popyt na smartfony z górnej półki.
HTC przewiduje, że w II kw. br. przychody firmy ze sprzedaży wyniosą najwyżej 1,16 mld dol. Oznacza to spadek o blisko 50 proc. w porównaniu z wynikiem sprzed roku. Jest to również dużo mniej niż dotąd zakładała spółka (maksymalnie 1,63 mld dol.). W konsekwencji firma spodziewa się straty netto do wysokości 290 mln dol. Tylko 93 mln dol. pochłonie przeszacowanie wartości zapasów sprzętu. W II kw. 2014 r. HTC wypracowało 120 mln dol. zysku.
Spółka wyjaśnia spadek słabnącym popytem na smartfony z Androidem z segmentu high-end. Dla porównania Apple z minionym kwartale zwiększyło sprzedaż o 71 proc., a HTC musi konkurować także z takimi firmami jak Samsung, Lenovo, Huawei czy Xiaomi. Kłopoty producenta odzwierciedlają problemy dostawców najdroższych smartfonów z Androidem. Po wprowadzeniu na rynek nowych iPhone’ów Apple zyskuje udziały na najwyższej półce urządzeń przenośnych.
