Intel porozumiał się z Rockchipem
Intel ogłosił strategiczne porozumienie z Rockchipem, co ma ułatwić mu ekspansję na rynku tabletów.
Zgodnie z warunkami umowy obie firmy będą dostarczać mobilną platformę SoC (System on Chip) pod marką Intel. Będzie ona oparta na procesorze Atom, zintegrowanym z technologią modemową 3G Intela. Nowy, czterordzeniowy system SoFIA 3G ma być dostępny w I poł. 2015 roku. Będzie przeznaczony przede wszystkim do tanich tabletów.
Rodzina czipów Intel SoFIA obejmie zatem trzy różne produkty: dwurdzeniową wersję 3G planowaną na IV kw. 2014 r., czterordzeniowy model 3G, która ma pojawić się w I poł. 2015 r., oraz wersję LTE — również zapowiadaną na I poł. przyszłego roku.
Cena czterordzeniowego układu SoFIA 3G na razie nie jest znana. Według Intela ma być konkurencyjna. Zgodnie z umową, zarówno Intel, jak i Rockchip będą sprzedawać nowy układ producentom OEM i ODM — przede wszystkim obecnym klientom każdej z firm.
