Intel: pierwszy 8-rdzeniowy procesor do desktopów
Procesor Core i7-5960X Extreme Edition („Haswell-E”) to 8-rdzeniowy model z możliwością obsługi 16 wątków i wsparciem dla pamięci DDR4. Na rynku pojawią się również sześciordzeniowe układy z odblokowanym mnożnikiem.
W nowym układzie częstotliwość taktowania rdzeni wynosi 3/3,5 GHz. Pojemność pamięci podręcznej to 20 MB, a maksymalne TDP sięga 140 W. W połączeniu z nowym czipsetem Intel X99 procesor i7-5960X tworzy pierwszą platformę desktopową Intela z obsługą DDR4 (wspiera DDR4 1333, 1600 i 2133 MHz). Wiele spośród nowych platform opartych na czipsecie X99 obsługuje złącze Thunderbolt. Razem z kartą rozszerzeń z portem Thunderbolt 2 możliwe jest uzyskanie połączeń o przepustowości 20 Gb/s.
Trzy nowe modele CPU (8 lub 6 rdzeni) kosztują od 389 do 999 dol.
