HTC zainwestuje 10 mld dol. w wirtualną rzeczywistość
Tajwański producent powołał fundusz, który ma sifnansować wielomiliardowe inwestycje w ekosystem VR.
Fundusz VR Venture Capital Alliance (VRVCA) wzmocni swoim kapitałem oprócz HTC 26 funduszy. W sumie wyłożą 10 mld dol. na inwestycje związane z wirtualną rzeczywistością i rozszerzoną rzeczywistością (AR). Tworząc sojusz kapitałowy HTC zrobiło decydujący krok w kierunku rozwoju własnego ekosystemu VR, w sytuacji, gdy sprzedaż smartfonów generuje straty. W kwietniu br. producent przeznaczył 100 mln dol. na projekty związane ze swoimi goglami VR Vive – w ramach jednego z funduszy, nazwanego Vive X.
HTC wydzieli w osobną spółkę – HTC Vive Tech Corp. – swój biznes związany z wirtualną rzeczywistością, co ma ułatwić rozwój tych rozwiązań i zawieranie sojuszy.
W I kw. finansowym 2016, zakończonym w maju, HTC kolejny raz z rzędu miał stratę netto – 78 mln dol. Przychody stopniały o 64 proc., do 445 mln dol.
