Przejmując firmę 3COM, HP liczy na podniesienie pozycji na rynku sieciowym, a jednocześnie likwiduje poważnego konkurenta. Mimo że 3COM od kilku lat przeżywał kłopoty, wciąż miał wielu wiernych klientów na rynku SMB. HP de facto kupuje tych klientów. Przejęcie 3COM to wyraźny sygnał koncentracji sił HP na tym rynku. Przyjmując skuteczną strategię wobec marki 3COM, HP może być wkrótce najgroźniejszym konkurentem CISCO na rynku rozwiązań sieciowych. To bardzo pozytywna informacja dla całego rynku, który na realnej konkurencji może tylko zyskać.
