Ericsson rozpocznie w 2002 roku wdrażanie 'programu podniesienia efektywności’ (Comprehensive Efficiency Program). Ma on przynieść redukcję kosztów o co najmniej 20 mld koron szwedzkich rocznie. Efektywność będzie podnoszona głównie poprzez cięcie kosztów we wszystkich oddziałach firmy na całym świecie. Oszczędności mają być osiągnięte wszędzie, poza sferą produkcyjną.
Producent zaprzestał przyjmowania nowych pracowników do firmy na całym świecie. Ograniczy też liczbę swoich konsultantów – w niektórych dziedzinach aż o połowę. Z usług konsultantów Ericsson będzie korzystał w ramach outsourcingu. Producent zwolni też 1500 osób ze szwedzkiego zakładu w Kumla i 600 z zakładu w Linkoping. Ci ostatni zostaną automatycznie przeniesieni do pracy w firmie Flextronics.
