AMD: słabo, ale jest nadzieja
Mimo ponad 100 mln dol. straty AMD w I kw. br. inwestorzy są zadowoleni. Kurs akcji poszedł w górę. Nadzieję na poprawę przywrócił nowy kontrakt spółki.
Strata netto AMD wyniosła w poprzednim kwartale 109 mln dol. Przychody spadły o jedną piątą do 832 mln dol. Analitycy przewidywali jednak jeszcze słabszy wynik. Rok wcześniej firma była 180 mln dol, na minusie. Nastroje poprawiło także utworzenie spółki joint venture w Chinach, która ma produkować czipy serwerowe.
Kontrakt z Tianjin Haiguang Advanced Technology Investment (THATIC) w przyszłym roku ma umożliwić AMD dostęp do chińskiego rynku serwerowego. Wspólna firma będzie projektować i produkować układy SoC (Systems-on-a-Chip). Wartość umowy licencyjnej wynosi według AMD 293 mln dol.
Lisa Su, szefowa korporacji, liczy na kolejne podobne kontrakty obejmujące czipy serwerowe Zen. Przekonuje, że duże zainteresowanie klientów ofertą dla centrów danych i nowymi rozwiązaniami zaowocuje zyskiem spółki w 2017 r. „Rynek data center to dla nas wielka szansa” – uważa Lisa Su. Zapewnia, że AMD będzie inwestować w technologię serwerową.
Rozwój na rynku centrów danych to także strategiczny cel największego konkurenta AMD – Intela.
