Rośnie liczba firm rozczarowanych chmurą. Przyczyną zwątpienia są koszty, które miały spadać, a nie spadają. Według badań NetEnrich 59 proc. szefów IT w 2019 r. stwierdziło, że koszty po migracji do chmury przekroczyły ich oczekiwania. Z 200 mld dol., jakie miały zostać wydane na chmurę publiczną prawdopodobnie 70 się zmarnowało. Ocenia się, że nawet 40 proc. zasobów AWS może być niewykorzystanych ze względu na przeszacowanie potrzeb.

Gartner w opublikowanym rok temu raporcie o optymalizacji kosztów w chmurze publicznej podsumował: „większość organizacji jest nieprzygotowana do wykorzystania oszczędności i skłonna do przepłacania”, zaś zasadnicza rada, jakiej udzielił firmowym informatykom postulowała sprawienie, by „konsumenci usług w chmurze byli odpowiedzialni za to, co wydają”.

Czy chmura publiczna pozwala zaoszczędzić? Oczywiście. Tyle że, jak znowu piszą analitycy Gartnera, wymaga to „ścisłej współpracy w takich dziedzinach jak governance, architektura, operacje, zarządzanie produktem, finanse i rozwój aplikacji”. No to nic dziwnego, że się nie udaje. Nawet szóstka w totka nie wymaga tak dużo. Wystarczy użyć przewidywania, systematyczności, skrupulatności, natchnienia i niebieskiej kredki…

Być może oczekiwania wobec chmury zmieni pandemia. Szefowie firm zauważyli, że praca zdalna i rozproszona, elastyczność w dopasowaniu się do nowych reguł gry wychodzi lepiej, gdy do zasobów przedsiębiorstwa – danych i aplikacji – można dostać się nie tylko zza firmowego biurka. Nie czekając nawet na koniec pandemii trzeba próbować uodpornić biznes na skrajnie silne perturbacje, bo być może zaczyna się właśnie „pandemia nierównowag” i szukać źródeł przychodów, a tu chmura może pokazać swoje prawdziwe zalety.

Chmura to nieograniczone możliwości zbierania i analizowania danych. Dlatego przedsiębiorstwa określane jako data-driven nie mogą istnieć bez chmury. Badania prowadzone przez Fujitsu pokazują, że spośród firm zaliczanych na podstawie zobiektywizowanych wskaźników do grupy „napędzanych przez dane” 79 proc. radzi sobie na rynku ponadprzeciętnie.

Dziś zasadniczą przewagę chmury stanowi potencjał przyszłości: możliwość szybkiego użycia w firmie zupełnie nowych technologii. Wielkie platformy chmurowe, takie jak AWS, Azure czy GoogleCloud, oferują dużo więcej niż proste operacje związane z przechowywaniem czy przetwarzaniem. Każda daje dostęp do tysięcy aplikacji, które można ze sobą łączyć i błyskawicznie tworzyć z nich własne rozwiązania na miarę. Zamiast programować samemu od początku, można poprzez API zintegrować odpowiednie narzędzie dostępne w chmurze. Nieważne, czy potrzebujesz uczenia maszynowego, bazy danych, zabezpieczeń, analityki wykorzystującej sztuczną inteligencję czy systemu transakcyjnego opartego o blockchain – w chmurze znajdziesz je od ręki. Dodaj do tego trochę otwartego kodu z GitHuba, żeby wszystko pozszywać i masz gotowy przepis na supernowoczesną aplikację w rekordowym czasie.

Wiele firm planuje migrację z banalnych powodów, aby już po kilku miesiącach odkryć, że największą wartość w chmurze dają nie tańsze serwery, ale olbrzymie zasoby aplikacji. Ich wykorzystanie pozwala w krótkim czasie, przy stosunkowo niewielkich kosztach stworzyć własne rozwiązanie, które inaczej powstawałoby długimi miesiącami, o ile w ogóle zmieściłoby się w budżecie. I to jest dzisiaj zasadnicza korzyść chmury: możliwość budowania innowacyjnych rozwiązań z gotowych klocków.
