HPE kupuje za 1,3 mld dol.
Superkomputery mają stworzyć nowe możliwości dla partnerów.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise przejmuje Cray, firmę specjalizującą się w superkomputerach, za 1,3 mld dol. Finalizacja transakcji jest spodziewana do stycznia 2020 r.
HPE przejmując Cray zamierza zaoferować HPC jako usługę w programie GreenLake. Taki model sprzedaży ma stworzyć nowe możliwości dla partnerów. Planuje także połączenie oferty superkomputerów z rozwiązaniami sztucznej inteligencji i uczenia maszynowego.
Koncern przewiduje, że zapotrzebowanie na moc obliczeniową będzie rosnąć w takich obszarach jak sztuczna inteligencja, uczenie maszynowe, big data, cyberbezpieczeństwo czy R&D w medycynie. HPE kupiło już w 2016 r. SGI – dostawcę HPC. Szef Cray deklaruje, że dzięki połączeniu sił powstanie globalny lider rynku superkomputerów i sztucznej inteligencji. Firma należy do największych dostawców HPC. W ub.r. wypracowała 456 mln dol. przychodów. Zatrudnia 1,3 tys. pracowników. Na świecie działa ok. 100 superkomputerów Cray, w tym 3 z pierwszej światowej dziesiątki.
