Qualcomm – producent procesorów – zapowiedział wejście na rynek wirtualnej rzeczywistości. Na początek udostępni narzędzia dla programistów (virtual reality development kit) do tworzenia aplikacji na VR działających na platformie Snapdragon 835. Następnie opracuje referencyjny design gogli VR. Narzędzia dla developerów będą do dyspozycji w II kw. br., a gogle VR – w II poł. 2017 r. Snapdragon 835 to nowy procesor wytwarzany przez Samsunga w 10-nanomentrowym procesie technologicznym. W br. pojawi się na rynku.

Zestaw do VR Qualcomma zostanie wyposażony w ekran AMOLED o rozdzielczości WQHD (2560 x 1440 pikseli), procesor Snapdragon 835, 4 GB RAM LPDDR4, 64 GB pamięci flash, 1-megapikselową kamerkę, funkcję śledzenia wzroku. Producenci sprzętu będą mogli dobierać podzespoły ze zdefiniowanego wcześniej zestawu opcji.
