Jest zgoda na przejęcie serwerów IBM przez Lenovo
Amerykański urząd ds. zagranicznych inwestycji (CFIUS) zaakceptował przejęcie działu serwerów x86 IBM przez Lenovo. Dzięki temu transakcja staje się możliwa.
Wcześniej zielone światło do zakupu dał chiński regulator rynku. Tych dwóch zgód brakowało, aby doszło do przejęcia. Obie firmy uzgodniły transakcję w styczniu br. Za dział serwerów x86 IBM Lenovo zapłaci 2,3 mld dol.
CFIUS długo opierał się z zaakceptowaniem akwizycji, ze względu na domniemane zagrożenie chińskim szpiegostwem. Otóż w serwery IBM wyposażone jest centrum danych amerykańskiego ministerstwa obrony. Kręgi rządowe obawiały się, że po pozyskaniu przez Lenovo technologii IBM serwery staną się łatwym łupem dla chińskich hakerów. Najwyraźniej uznano jednak, że niebezpieczeństwo nie jest tak duże.
Z kolei szef Lenovo, Yuanqing Yang, zapowiedział w lipcu, że chce aby rząd i armia USA nadal pozostały klientami firmy. Wyraził wówczas nadzieję, że zakup zostanie sfinalizowany do końca br. Zgodnie z umową ze stycznia br. transakcja obejmie takie linie produktów jak System x, Blade Center, Flex System Blade, systemy zintegrowane, NeXtScale, iDataPlex. Do Lenovo ma przejść ok. 7,5 tys. pracowników IBM.
