Są już pierwsze instalacje systemu Lucent WaveStar OLS 1.6T – systemu wykorzystujący technikę DWDM (gęstego zwielokrotnienia w dziedzinie długości fal). Szybkość transmisji nowego system wynosi 1,6 tryliona bitów na sekundę.
Lucent WaveStar OLS 1.6T bazuje na platformie Lucent WaveStar OLS 400G – systemie DWDM o maksymalnej przepustowości 400 Gb/s. Technika DWDM zwiększa przepustowość sieci dzięki przesyłaniu w jednym włóknie światłowodowym różnych długości fal (kolorów), z których każda niesie odrębny strumień informacji. WaveStar OLS 1.6T będzie dostępny wiosną tego roku.
