Compaq wprowadzi na rynek technologię klastrową dla własnych urządzeń pamięci masowej TaskSmart N-Series Network Attached Storage (NAS). Są to rozwiązania przeznaczone dla klientów instytucjonalnych. Nowy klaster TaskSmart N-Series Cluster pozwala na skalowalność pojemności pamięci masowej do 10 TB. Jest to pierwszy klaster typu NAS, całkowicie oparty na standardowych technologiach sprzętowych, systemach operacyjnych i aplikacjach. Compaq zapowiedział rozszerzenie funkcjonalności już oferowanych urządzeń TaskSmart N2400 o obsługę pamięci o pojemności do 2 TB, poprawę skalowalności oraz obsługę łączy Gigabit Ethernet. W konstrukcji nowego klastra wykorzystano serwer ProLiant, pamięć masową StorageWorks oraz system Windows 2000 Advanced Server, zoptymalizowany pod kątem pamięci NAS.
Ceny nowego klastra TaskSmart N-Series Cluster rozpoczynają się od 175 tys. dol. dla konfiguracji o pojemności 144 GB. System będzie w sprzedaży u resellerów Compaqa w I kw. br. Pamięci TaskSmart N2400 typu NAS są już w sprzedaży.
