Apple zablokował produkcję ultrabooków Asusa
Koncern postawił pod ścianą firmę Pegatron, która wytwarza Zenbooki – ultrabooki Asusa. Jeśli nie zatrzyma taśm produkcyjnych, może zapomnieć o kontraktach na sprzęt Apple’a.
Pegatron to tajwański koncern OEM, produkujący m.in. sprzęt komputrowy, konsole, smartfony, telewizory LCD. Apple, który jest jednym z jego klientów (w fabryce Pegatrona powstają komputery MacBook Air i iPhone’y), postawił firmie ultimatum – jeśli nie zakończy produkcji Zenbooków Asusa, nie dostanie nowych zleceń. Najwyraźniej koncern z Cupertino nie jest zadowolony z wprowadzenia na rynek ultrabooków, które mogą okazać się konkurencją dla jego laptopów. Według serwisu Digitimes Pegatron uległ presji. Zależy mu na dobrych układach z Apple’em, bo oprócz kolejnych umów na MacBooki i iPhone’y ma szansę na kontrakt na produkcję iPadów3.
Umowa na wytwarzanie Zenbooków wygaśnie najwcześniej w końcu marca. Asus musi szybko rozejrzeć się za nową fabryką. Zdaniem Digitimes wybór padnie na Compal Electronics albo Wistrona.
W 2010 r. Pegatron miał 18,4 mld dol. przychodów. Firma zatrudnia ponad 100 tys. osób.
